Coulthard completes Mercedes DTM test

Former F1 race winner David Coulthard has completed a two-day test with Mercedes in Spain to sample DTM machinery for the first time.

Coulthard retired from F1 at the end of the 2008 season and has since worked for Red Bull in an ambassadorial role and for the BBC as an expert pundit on its F1 coverage.

Following is departure from F1 racing, Coulthard has made no secret of an interest in continuing his career elsewhere, although a statement from the DTM insisted that Schumacher’s run in the Mercedes C Class allowed ‘no direct conclusions on a possible deal for the 2010 season’.

If Coulthard did elect to race in the DTM, he would become the latest in a long line of F1 drivers to move into the series, with Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Ralf Schumacher all competing in tin top series after leaving F1.
